2. Your phone or laptop: Your device makes two linked keys: one stays on the device, one is public
3. The website: The website stores only the public key
4. You: Later you open the site and tap sign in
5. The website: It sends a random challenge
6. Your phone or laptop: You prove it is you with your face or fingerprint
7. Your phone or laptop: The private key signs the challenge
8. The website: The site checks the signature with the public key
9. The website: Does it match?
10. You: You are in, with no password to type or steal
11. The website: Sign in fails
